Pola

Pola Pagalu originally hails from the small northern island of Kioa, which was settled by Tuvaluan migrants in the 1950s. Thus, unlike most Fijians—who are indigenous iTaukei people—Pola has strong Polynesian heritage. Maybe Pola inherited his remarkable eyesight from Polynesian ancestors who famously navigated the Pacific in canoes, using traditional wayfinding techniques such as bird observation. Whatever the case may be, we sure are grateful for his eagle eyes when searching for schools of fusiliers. In addition to being a skilful and entertaining skipper, Pola is also a madkeen angler, and one of the few Fijians who own heavy topwater gear. Guess what he does on days off!
